“It’s just a hobby.” I hear this a lot, and I get it, not everyone wants to turn what they do into a real job. You create because you enjoy it, sell a piece here and there, no real plan behind it. But that doesn’t mean a website can’t still be useful.
Why “it’s just a hobby” feels like a reason not to have a website
When you think of a website, you tend to picture something big: a company, growth goals, but if what you do stays small and informal, it can feel out of place.
A website doesn’t require you to already be a real company, though. You don’t need a huge catalog or hundreds of orders, a page with a little about you, what you make, some photos, and a simple way to reach you is enough. It doesn’t need constant updates, it can sit untouched for months. It doesn’t change what you do, it just changes where people find it.
The problem starts when Instagram isn’t enough anymore
At first, Instagram is all you need: you post, someone messages you, you explain how to order. Then the same questions start repeating, how much does it cost, how do I order, where can I see the other options, and every time you’re digging up a photo or retyping the same answer.
Instagram shows, the website organizes. Someone sees your product on Instagram, gets interested, and wants to know more. Instead of piecing everything together from your profile or waiting for a reply, they find a link where the information they need is already there, easy to check.
It’s a small difference, but it makes things easier, both for a potential customer and for how you manage your project day to day.

So, do I really need a website?
Maybe, but not because your hobby needs to become something more serious. You need it because the way you’re managing the project has outgrown the space you originally gave it.
If Instagram and DMs are still working fine for now, there’s no rush. A website should make your life easier, not add one more thing to manage.
